I got a shortcut virus on my computer and every time I plug in a pendrive it creates a shortcut . When I try to open the drive in shows access denied. How can I remove this virus without formatting everytime? tried various antivirus too but none of them worked.

Don't open that shortcut it's a Virus :/

Temporary solution to access your files in USB drive :-
  • Click on Tools tab.
  • Then Go to Folders option.
  • In View tab, hidden files and filders.
  • Tick Show hidden files and folders.
  • Untick Hide system files.
  • That's it ...!
  • Now you can access your files in usb drive.

Bit defender helps but I think infected files are deleted too.

Try Malwarebytes removal tool and use WinRAR to access files and folders till its fixed to prevent autorun.
Using an antivirus will help in defending virus/mmalware attacks in future. I recommend Avast Free Edition.

Hey, I have encountered same problem long before. here is the fix:

1. Go to cmd >

type in :

2. attrib -h -r -s /s /d Drivename:\*.* (This command helps to unhide all hidden files and removes shortcuts)

3. If you are infected by malicious script , here is how to remove it.

Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc > opens Task Manager > go to process Tab, stop wscript.exe.

4. disable wscript.exe starting from boot , open Run>type in msconfig >go to startup tab disable wscript.exe.

5. Go to Run , type in regedit Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER / Software / Microsoft / Windows / CurrentVersion / Run

Delete odwcamszas registry key in that directory.

I formatted my laptop twice to remove this kind of shortcut, after first format, scanned with newly installed antivirus and then after detection of virus formatted again. I find no shortcut now.. But it was :lolsign:
