Announcing Reliance Jio's entry into the Indian telecom market, Reliance Industries' Chairman Mukesh Ambani, said that the new telco will realise India's digital dream and make it into a "data abundant" country.

Ambani said that by March next year, 90% of Indians will be on Jio's network. Currently, he said, Jio is available in 18,000 cities and towns and two lakh villages. This is before the services were even formally launched. Reliance Jio's services will be open for all from September 5 (Monday), he said.

While talking about Jio, Ambani made several announcements at the shareholders' meet in Mumbai on Thursday.

Here are key takeaways from Ambani's speech at the shareholders' meet.

> Free lifetime voice calls: Making a revolutionary announcement, Ambani said that Jio customers will never have to pay for voice calls made in India. Jio will also not charge its customers for SMSes, even on festivals, which is usually the industry practice.

Thanks

> International calls: While international calls will be chargeable, the prices will be nominal, he promised, and all the subscribers will get the access to the Jio apps for free.

> Affordable data: Claiming that Reliance Jio will “transform India from the highest tariff market to the lowest anywhere in the world,” Ambani said that one MB of data will cost 5 paise only or Rs 50 for one GB of data.

-- Price point starting at 19 per day or ocassional data user

-- To monthly Rs 149 play for light data user

-- Rs 4,999 heaviest data user

-- Lowest LTE data charges in the world

-- No upfront rates, no strings attached

> Low data rates: He said Reliance Jio will have one-tenth the industry base rate. Reliance Jio has plans starting at Rs 19 per day going up to Rs 4,999 a month.

> 'Free Welcome Pack' for all the new customers which will make Jio services free till December 31, 2016.

> Simple data plans: Jio will have only ten plans to keep things simple according to different budget and data needs.

> Real time bills: Reliance Jio will let you see your bill amount in real time, every time you use the services. “No more waiting till the end of the month to see your bill,” Ambani said.

> Wi-Fi hotspots: Reliance Jio will set up atleast one million Wi-Fi spots in the country.

> Student plan: Students with valid identity cards will be eligible for 25% more data on their packs.

> Wifi-Boost: Jio customers will get free access to Wi-Fi hotspots to a prescribed level.

> e-KYC: Registration to Jio services will take all of 15 minutes with e-KYC and Aadhar-enabled subscription.

> Enterprise/ Corporate plan: There will be special data packs for enterprises and corporates.
