Datawind, Canadian company has officially declared a new version of its much hyped Aakash tablet. The tablet was launched by Pranab Mukherjee, President of India. Datawind designed and manufactured this 7-inch display tablet.

Device Specification:
• 7-inch display
• 1 GHz mobile processor
• 480x800 pixel resolution natively
• 4-point multi-touch screen
• 1 GHz ARM Cortex-A8 mobile processor
• 512 MB RAM
• Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system
• VGA camera
• 3.5 mm audio port
Yet Datawind has not formally declared the price of the tablet but as per the reports tablet will be available to students for a subsidiesed price of Rs 1,130". As stated by the Datawind," The tablet is commercially available in the market as UbiSlate 7Ci for a price of Rs 4,499. And they will provide the tablet to the Human Resource Ministry for distribution among students for Rs 2,263".
Datawind chief executive officer was quoted as saying, "The price is Rs 2,263 at which the government purchases the device from us. The government subsidises it by 50 per cent and it will be distributed to students at Rs 1,130”. Datawind commits to supply 100,000 units to the Institute of Information and Technology - Bombay which will further distribute those tablets to Engineer Universities. The teaching faculties of the IIT Bombay have also claimed to build some applications for the Engineering Students on the Aakash 2 tablet.
The first version of the tablet, Aakash was the dream of many and finally turned into a nightmare. The first generation Aakash Tablet created disappointment among the users because of the delays in the availability and several other issues. Many who have already ordered the tablet are yet to hear from the company. Although the subsidized Aakash 2 tablet's availability is not known yet, users can pre-book the UbiSlate 7Ci tablet from DataWind.
